The team at Firelight takes care to mentor their interns, giving them the skills and experience they need to be the next generation of media and nonprofit professionals.
Firelight Films is the award-winning production company behind groundbreaking documentaries by Stanley Nelson, such as San Juan Hill: Manhattan's Lost Neighborhood, Sound of the Police, Attica, Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, and The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution.
This HYBRID internship program offers the chance to support key aspects of their work, including pre-production research and tracking artist support programs, contributing directly to their mission of social impact through documentary storytelling. Local candidates may also work from their office.
Their internship program will give dedicated and driven students the opportunity to assist our Firelight Films and Firelight Media teams with:
The development and production of documentary projects, including working on research, production, post-production, and a variety of operational tasks;
Marketing and communications, including film promotion, graphic design, and social media content production;
Nonprofit fundraising; and
Supporting our Artist Programs team on filmmaker fellowship and grant programs.
They’re looking for college students and recent graduates who can commit up to 20 hours per week from Monday, January 13, 2025 through Friday, May 23, 2025.

Internship Opportunities by Department
Interns will be assigned to specific departments with specific assignments, and will be expected to complete short- and long-term projects under the direct supervision of our dedicated staff. Please see the different departments that have openings below:
Production Interns:
Production interns (2) work with staff and crew of Firelight Films on upcoming productions and provide general support for the production company. Interested candidates should email: internships@firelightmedia.org with “Firelight Internship - Production” in the subject line.
Communications Interns:
Firelight Media’s two-person Communications Department is seeking two interns for the Fall 2022 term. Reporting to the Director of Communications and the Communications Manager, Communications Interns will work in close collaboration to support the visibility and sustainability of the organization through both internal- and external-facing projects as detailed below. Operations Department Interns:
The Operations Department Associate will support the Operations team in all operations & management related tasks that ensure that the business is able to run smoothly & efficiently. Intern will assist in the research of cutting edge new office software as well as new office protocols/procedures. Development Department Interns:
The Development Associate will support the Development team in all fundraising efforts directed towards expanding and diversifying the organization’s support base. Intern will assist in developing and carrying out the implementation of fund development activities including: writing grant proposals, research institutional and individual funding trends and opportunities. Program Requirements:
Interns are given the option to work two or more full days per week (Mon-Fri), or a minimum of 15 hours per week This is currently an unpaid internship but they can provide academic credit or 6 recommendations based on internship performance.
