Introducing the Allbritton Journalism Institute Reporting Fellowships!
ALERT: The application is due by 11:59 p.m., Eastern, on May 31!! APPLY SOON!
The Allbritton Journalism Institute is a new non-profit organization backed by a $20 million grant from Robert Allbritton and the founding publisher of POLITICO.
AJI is staffed by a group of veteran journalists who’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to fix journalism and improve our democracy.
The AJI Reporting Fellowship aims to restore journalism’s role in our national conversation by fostering a new generation of reporters, from a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives, who produce work that Americans trust. The fellowship is a fully-funded educational experience through which early-career reporters learn from accomplished, working journalists, and then apply that knowledge in our professional newsroom where they report on government and politics in Washington, D.C.
The fellowship launches in September 2023, offering 10 aspiring journalists a two-year educational program that prepares them for careers as credible, non-partisan reporters in the nation’s capital or wherever their work may take them.
Students learn core skills from respected professional reporters and editors in a classroom setting, and they gain real-world experience by working in an actual newsroom.Â
Students are paid an annual stipend of $60,000 so that they can live in the Washington, D.C. area and devote their attention and energy to the fellowship. (For more information, see our main website and this introduction to the program.)
The application is due by 11:59 p.m., Eastern, on May 31. They plan to interview finalists and announce decisions in June. Students who enroll in the program would be expected to relocate to the D.C. area by early September.
