Next week, October 16, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Brian Hughes, co-founder and Associate Director at PERIL (Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab). Dr. Hughes is also a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Justice, Law, and Criminology at American University’s School of Public Affairs.
Dr. Hughes founded the Extremism Research and Intervention Studio (ERIS) within PERIL, which develops cutting-edge solutions to address polarization and extremism, particularly in the digital sphere. The studio uses innovative approaches such as short-form video and other tools to tackle the challenges posed by political and religious extremism.
His scholarly work focuses on the impact of communication technology on extremism, terrorism, and fringe culture. This is an exciting opportunity to hear from a leading expert in the field!
