Major Declarations/ Surveys/ Advisors: How to declare yourself a major/minor & connect with your advisor!

Step 1: Declaring Your Major/Minor
QC’s Media Studies Department offers three majors: Media, Film, and Advertising
Students may minor in: Media or Film
Here is how to declare one:
Fill out a “Declaration” Form virtually or come in person to the G Building on campus. Declaration forms can be found here: https://www.qc.cuny.edu/qchub/wp-content/uploads/sites/38/2022/05/Declaration-of-Major-Form.pdf
Send your filled out form to our email: mediastudies@qc.cuny.edu with the subject (declaration form - Your name - Your CUNY ID). OR hand it in person to our office.
Allow document to be processed and check on CUNYFirst for updated major/minor status.
Step 2: Fill Out The Survey
[Do not forget this step!]
To best assign you with an advisor, the department must verify that you are declared in one of our three majors and that the student has filled out one of our two survey forms.
Minors are unfortunately not assigned advisors, however, may at any time seek assistance from advisors or departmental faculty as needed.
In addition to learning more about the interests and needs of our students, we are making improvements to our department advising policies. Our objective is to match students with advisors working in similar fields.

Step 3: Get Connected with Advisor
After declaring yourself a major and filling out one of the two surveys, the department office will contact you to assign you an advisor and to answer any questions you might have about the department. If you don't hear back from us in 72 hours (M-F), email MediaStudies@qc.cuny.edu to follow up or message us on Instagram (@qc.mediastudies).
